Softball Recap: Monday's Loss Ends Jenkins' Winning Streak

Jenkins dropped their record down to 11-3 on Monday, which also ended the team's four-game streak of wins. They came up short against the Letcher County Central Cougars, falling 8-1. If the Cavaliers were looking for revenge after losing 16-0 to the Cougars when the teams met back in April of 2024, then they'll just have to keep looking.

As for Letcher County Central, the victory was the sixth in a row for them, bringing their record up to 12-8. Considering they have won six contests by more than five runs this season, Monday's blowout was nothing new.

For Letcher County Central's part, Katie Combs was incredible, going 3-for-4 with two stolen bases, one triple, and two RBI. That's the most hits Combs has posted since back in March. The team also got some help courtesy of Kaily Bentley, who went 2-for-4 with two runs, one triple, and one RBI.

Both teams are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Jenkins will host Buckhorn at 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday. The Wildcats have struggled to contain batters this season (they've allowed 11 runs per game on average), something the Cavaliers will no doubt try to take advantage of. As for Letcher County Central, they will look to defend their home field on Tuesday against Cordia at 6:00 p.m. The Cougars are facing the Lions at the right time seeing as the Lions are stuck on an eight-game losing streak.
