Basketball Game Preview: Westland Cougars vs. Washington Blue Lions

The Westland Cougars will head out on the road to square off against the Washington Blue Lions at 7:00 p.m. on Monday. Expect the scorekeeper to be kept busy: if their previous games are any indication, the two teams will really light up the scoreboard.

Having struggled with 33 defeats in a row dating back to last season, Westland turned things around against Cristo Rey on Saturday. They really took it to the Cougar for the full four quarters, racking up a 66-29 win. The Cougars' offense stepped up their game for this one, as that was the most points they've scored all season.

Westland's success was the result of a balanced attack that saw several players step up, but Marissa Rensch led the charge by dropping a double-double on 22 points and 23 rebounds. Ijiahana Colpetro was another key player, going 5 of 7 en route to 14 points and four steals.

Meanwhile, Washington had already won two in a row (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 19.5 points) and they went ahead and made it three on Saturday. They came out on top against the Irish by a score of 56-45. The Blue Lions pushed the score to 48-25 by the end of the third, a deficit the Irish cut but never quite recovered from.

The victory got Washington back to even at 8-8. As for Westland, their win (their first of the season) made their record 1-14.
