Basketball Recap: Mathews Makes It Five in a Row at Home

There's no place like home for Mathews, who bounced back after a loss on the road last Wednesday. They had just enough and edged the Columbiana Clippers out 70-68. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest win the Mustangs have posted since January 16, 2024.

Despite the defeat, Columbiana had strong showings from Cooper Brown, who went 9-for-18 on his way to 24 points in addition to three steals and three blocks, and Seth Struharik, who went 7-for-14 en route to 21 points and five rebounds. The game was Struharik's seventh in a row with at least 20 points. Another player making a difference was Luca Cagliuso, who posted nine points.

Mathews' victory was their fifth straight at home, which pushed their record up to 17-5. Those victories came thanks in part to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 66.8 points over those games. As for Columbiana, their loss ended a three-game streak of away wins and brought them to 19-3.

Coming up, Mathews will square off against Lowellville at 7:00 p.m. on February 22nd. Columbiana does not have any more games scheduled as of now.
