Basketball Game Preview: Monterey Trail Mustangs vs. Sheldon Huskies

Monterey Trail hasn't had much luck against Sheldon recently, but that could start to change on Wednesday. The Monterey Trail Mustangs will take on the Sheldon Huskies at 7:30 p.m. Both teams are coming into the match red-hot, with Monterey Trail sitting on four straight wins and Sheldon on six.

Monterey Trail is headed into the contest having just posted their biggest victory since December 4, 2024 on Monday. They simply couldn't be stopped as they easily beat Pleasant Grove 77-48. Given the Mustangs' advantage in MaxPreps' California basketball rankings (they are ranked 32nd, while the Eagles are ranked 548th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.

Meanwhile, Sheldon strolled past Elk Grove with points to spare on Monday, taking the game 61-42.

Monterey Trail has also been performing incredibly well recently as they've won 12 of their last 14 games, which provided a nice bump to their 18-4 record this season. The wins came thanks to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 69.4 points per game. As for Sheldon, their win bumped their record up to 12-9.

Monterey Trail came out on top in a nail-biter against Sheldon in their previous meeting on January 8th, sneaking past 65-62. One of the biggest obstacles the team faced in that game was Sheldon's Sebastian James, who went 7 of 13 en route to 19 points and eight boards.
