Softball Recap: Windthorst Drops Season-High Score on Seymour

Winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask Windthorst). Their pitcher stepped up to hand the Seymour Panthers an 18-0 shutout on Tuesday. Considering the Trojans have won seven games by more than seven runs this season, Tuesday's blowout was nothing new.

Delaney Ashley looked comfortable as she tossed three innings while giving up no earned runs off four hits. She has been nothing but reliable on the mound: she hasn't given up more than two walks in eight consecutive appearances.

At the plate, Karissa Fillingim and Sophie Reese did most of the damage at the plate: Fillingim went a perfect 3-for-3 with three runs, four RBI, and two doubles, while Reese went a perfect 3-for-3 with one home run, five RBI, and three runs. Those four RBI gave Fillingim a new career-high. Chloe Schroeder was another key player, scoring a run and stealing a base while getting on base in three of her four plate appearances.

Windthorst always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .719. That's the best OBP they've posted all season.

Windthorst's win ended a three-game drought on the road and puts them at 8-11. As for Seymour, they are on a six-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 1-16.

Both teams are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Windthorst will square off against Petrolia at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. The Trojans will need to watch out since the Pirates have now posted at least ten runs in their last four matchups. As for Seymour, a feisty cat fight will be fought as Seymour Panthers duke it out with Electra Tigers at 6:00 p.m. on Friday.
