Preview: Lely Trojans vs. Palmetto Ridge Bears
The Lely Trojans will head out on the road to face off against the Palmetto Ridge Bears at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday. The teams are rolling into the game with opposing streaks: Lely has struggled recently with four losses in a row, while Palmetto Ridge will arrive with five straight wins.
Last Thursday, it was a hard-fought contest, but Lely had to settle for a 55-52 loss against Aubrey Rogers.
Lely's defeat shouldn't obscure the performances of Wally Monpremier, who scored 8 points along with 8 rebounds, and Jayce Cora who scored 6 points along with 7 rebounds and 5 blocks. Cora has been hot recently, having posted two or more steals the last three times he's played. The team also got some help courtesy of Marvell Jean Pierre, who scored 10 points along with 3 steals.
Meanwhile, Palmetto Ridge made easy work of Immokalee on Thursday and carried off a 72-50 victory. Given Palmetto Ridge's advantage in MaxPreps' Florida basketball rankings (they are ranked 36th, while Immokalee is ranked 148th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.
Calven Charles continued his habit of posting crazy stat lines, scoring 22 points. Sean Gomez was another key contributor, scoring 13 points along with 7 rebounds.
The losses dropped Lely to 1-4 and Aubrey Rogers to 2-2.
Lely didn't have too much breathing room in their matchup against Palmetto Ridge in their previous matchup back in January, but they still walked away with a 52-48 win. The rematch might be a little tougher for Lely since the team won't have the home-court advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
