Preview: Wallace Wildcats vs. Maxwell Wildcats
Wallace and the Wildcats are an even 5-5 against one another since January of 2019, but not for long. The Wallace Wildcats' road trip will continue as they head out to face the Maxwell Wildcats at 7:30 p.m. on February 2nd. The matchup should be an exciting one, as these teams are closely ranked in Nebraska (Wallace is ranked 235th, while the Wildcats are ranked 236th).
Last Tuesday, Wallace came up short against the Eagles and fell 55-47.
Despite their defeat, Wallace saw several players rise to the challenge and make noteworthy plays. Matt Lungrin, who scored 14 points along with six rebounds and three steals, was perhaps the best of all. The team also got some help courtesy of Max Hanson, who scored eight points along with five rebounds and four steals.
Maxwell won a close one the last time they played, but unfortunately they suffered a serious change of fortune on Tuesday. They ended up on the wrong side of a rough 53-28 walloping at the hands of Perkins County.
The losing side was boosted by Levi Huffman, who scored 12 points.
Maxwell struggled to work together and finished the game with only an assist. That's the fewest assists they've managed all season.
Wallace has been struggling recently as they've lost six of their last seven games, which put a noticeable dent in their 6-12 record this season. Maxwell's record is now 4-13.
Friday's matchup is one where the number of possessions is likely to be a big factor: Wallace have been smashing the glass this season, having averaged 22.7 rebounds per game. However, it's not like Maxwell struggles in that department as they've been averaging 24.6 rebounds per game. Given these competing strengths, it'll be interesting to see how their clash plays out.
Wallace couldn't quite finish off the Wildcats in their previous meeting on Friday and fell 36-33. Can Wallace avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
