Baseball Recap: St. Pius X Beats Valencia for Their Fourth Straight Victory

St. Pius X had to skate by with only a two-run margin when they last took the field, which might have inspired the 11-run drubbing they dealt Valencia on Tuesday. The Sartans put the hurt on the Jaguars with a sharp 12-1 victory. That looming 12-1 mark stands out as the most commanding margin for the Sartans yet this season.

Jacob Madrid made a splash no matter where he played. On the mound, he didn't allow a single earned run while striking out eight over 5.2 innings pitched. Those eight strikeouts gave him a new career-high. He was also big at the plate, going a perfect 3-for-3 with one home run, three RBI, and two runs. He is becoming a predictor of St. Pius X's success: when he posts at least two runs the team is 2-1 (and 8-9 when he doesn't).

In other batting news, Jax Mulville was incredible, scoring three runs and stealing a base while going 2-for-3. He also hit a triple, marking his first of the season. Another player making a difference was Joaquin Aragon, who went 2-for-3 with two RBI.

St. Pius X always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .515. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Valencia only posted an OBP of .190.

The win (which was St. Pius X's fourth in a row) raised their record to 10-10. Those victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 2.3 runs on average over those games. As for Valencia, they have traveled a rocky road recently, having lost seven of their last eight contests. That's put a noticeable dent in their 8-11 record this season.

Both teams will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. St. Pius X will venture away from home to square off against Rio Grande at 6:00 p.m. on Saturday. As for Valencia, they will head out to face off against Highland at 3:00 p.m. on Friday.
