The Scotland Fighting Scots will square off against the Cape Fear Colts on Tuesday. Scotland will be looking to extend their current 24-game winning streak.
Scotland is on a roll after a high-stakes playoff matchup on Thursday. Their pitcher stepped up to hand Western Alamance a 5-0 shutout. Give the Fighting Scots' pitching crew some credit: that's the team's fifth straight shutout.
Not much got past Avery Stutts, who gave up just a hit and racked up 13 Ks to keep Western Alamance off the board. Stutts has been consistent for a while: she hasn't given up more than one earned run in 25 consecutive appearances.
At the plate, Emily Sampson was incredible, going 2-for-3 with one home run and three RBI. Another player making a difference was Dawson Blue, who went 3-for-4 with one triple, one stolen base, and one run.
Scotland hit smart and finished the game with only two strikeouts. The team has now struck out at least three batters in three consecutive contests.
Meanwhile, Cape Fear got the win against Southern Alamance on Friday by a conclusive 17-7. Considering the Colts have won 17 matchups by more than five runs this season, Friday's blowout was nothing new.
McKinley Kolasa made a big impact no matter where she played. She didn't allow a single earned run and allowed only one hit over 4.1 innings pitched. Kolasa was also solid in the batter's box, going 1-for-4 with four runs and one triple. That's the most runs she has posted since back in March.
In other batting news, Cape Fear got a massive performance out of Addie Davis, who got on base in four of her five plate appearances with one home run, five RBI, and two runs. That's the most RBI Davis has posted since back in April. Amari Adams was another key player, getting on base in four of her five plate appearances with two stolen bases, three runs, and two doubles.
Cape Fear has been performing incredibly well recently as they've won 14 of their last 16 games. That's provided a nice bump to their 22-5 record this season. The wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 13.1 runs over those games. As for Scotland, their victory was their 14th straight at home, which pushed their record up to 25-1.
Scotland suffered a grim 10-0 defeat to Cape Fear when the teams last played back in May of 2017. Can the Fighting Scots avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
