Basketball Recap: Sam Quiring's Big Game Can't Quite Lead Heartland over Riverside

Heartland was the 68-52 winner over Riverside when they last played one another back in December of 2023, but their luck changed this time around. The Heartland Huskies took a 59-51 hit to the loss column at the hands of the Riverside Chargers on Tuesday. The Huskies have now taken an 'L' in back-to-back games.

Heartland's loss came despite a true team effort from the offense, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Sam Quiring, who almost dropped a double-double on 14 points and nine rebounds. The dominant performance also gave Quiring a new career-high in steals (three). Thane Wetjen was another key player, dropping a double-double on 22 points and ten boards.

Heartland's defeat dropped their record down to 2-6. As for Riverside, their victory ended a four-game drought at home and bumped them up to 4-6.

Heartland wasted no time getting back out on the court and has already played their next contest, a 52-36 loss against Fullerton on the 10th. As for Riverside, they also didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next matchup, a 70-37 win against Heartland Lutheran on the 9th.
