Warren Central had lost nine straight on the road, but on Monday they dropped down to 4-23 to make it ten. They came up short against the South Warren Spartans, falling 16-0. Unfortunately, that's the third time they've come up short against the Spartans this season, with their most recent loss being a 22-0 defeat two weeks ago.
As for South Warren, the win keeps them at an undefeated 37-0. Considering they have won 32 contests by more than five runs this season, Monday's blowout was nothing new.
For South Warren's part, Layla Ogden made a big impact while hitting and pitching. She looked comfortable on the mound, striking out six batters over two innings while giving up no earned runs or hits (and not a single walk). Ogden has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't given up more than two walks in 19 consecutive appearances. She was also big at the plate, going 1-for-3 with one home run and two RBI.
In other pitching news, Emme Goss looked comfortable as she tossed one inning while giving up no earned runs or hits. She has been consistent: she hasn't given up more than one walk in seven consecutive appearances.
Back at the plate, South Warren got a massive performance out of Parker Willoughby, who went a perfect 3-for-3 with one home run, three runs, and four RBI. What's more, Willoughby posted two doubles, the most she's had since back in April. Another player making a difference was McLaine Hudson, who went a perfect 3-for-3 with one home run, two runs, and one stolen base.
Warren Central does not have any more games scheduled as of now. As for South Warren, they will host Greenwood at 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday. The Gators' pitching crew has only allowed four runs per game this season, so the Spartans' hitters will have their work cut out for them.
