Basketball Recap: IDEA Weslaco Pike Takes a Loss

IDEA Weslaco Pike was not able to break out of their rough patch on Tuesday as the team picked up their fifth straight loss. They were outmatched by the Rio Hondo Bobcats and fell 93-27. While losing is never fun, the Mavericks can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Texas basketball rankings (they are ranked 1349th, while the Bobcats are ranked 507th).

Rio Hondo's win was a true team effort, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Carlie Rodriguez, who posted 24 points. The contest was Rodriguez's eighth in a row with at least ten points. Emily Molina was another key player, putting up 23 points.

IDEA Weslaco Pike's defeat dropped their record down to 1-8. As for Rio Hondo, the victory was the ninth in a row for them, bringing their record for this year to 20-2.

IDEA Weslaco Pike will head out to challenge Santa Rosa at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. IDEA Weslaco Pike has been getting the ball to fall more lately as they've increased their point totals each of their last three games. As for Rio Hondo, they will look to defend their home court on Friday against IDEA Frontier College Prep at 5:30 p.m.
