Basketball Game Preview: Lincoln Trojans vs. Monterey Trail Mustangs

Lincoln has gone a perfect 3-0 against Monterey Trail recently and they'll look to pad the win column further on Friday. The Lincoln Trojans will challenge the Monterey Trail Mustangs at 7:30 p.m. One thing working in Lincoln's favor is that they have posted at least 55 points in their last 22 matches.

Lincoln is on a roll after a high-stakes playoff matchup on Wednesday. They took their contest with ease, bagging an 84-51 victory over Gregori. The Trojans have made a habit of sweeping their opponents off the court, having now won 16 games by 20 points or more this season.

Donez Lindsey and Anthony Moore were among the main playmakers for Lincoln as the former almost dropped a double-double with 16 points and nine assists and the latter went 9-for-18 on his way to 22 points in addition to five rebounds and three steals. That's the most assists Lindsey has posted since back in December of 2024. Dilan Fanucchi was another key player, going 6-for-10 en route to 12 points and six boards.

Meanwhile, Monterey Trail waltzed into their matchup on Wednesday with five straight wins... but they left with six. They blew past the Vikings 83-48. Given the Mustangs' advantage in MaxPreps' California basketball rankings (they are ranked 35th, while the Vikings are ranked 268th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.

Monterey Trail's win was their ninth straight at home, which pushed their record up to 24-5. Those victories came thanks in part to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 74.0 points over those games. As for Lincoln, their victory bumped their record up to 26-3.

Lincoln didn't have too much breathing room in their contest against Monterey Trail in their previous meeting back in February of 2024, but they still walked away with a 93-88 win. One of the biggest obstacles trying to stand in the way of that victory was Monterey Trail's Brandon Gibson Jr, who dropped a double-double with 29 points and 12 rebounds.
