Softball Recap: South Harrison Continues Home Dominance on Thursday

It may have taken nine innings to finish the job, but South Harrison ultimately got the result they hoped for on Thursday. They narrowly escaped with a victory as the team sidled past the Robert C. Byrd Eagles 7-6. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest win the Hawks have posted since April 12th.

Ava Louk was a major factor no matter where she played. On the mound, she struck out 17 batters over nine innings while giving up just one earned (and five unearned) runs off one hit. She has been consistent: she hasn't tossed less than six strikeouts in seven consecutive appearances. She was also big at the plate, going 3-for-6 with four stolen bases, four RBI, and two runs. That's the most hits she has posted since back in March of 2024.

In other batting news, Riley Myers was a standout: she went 1-for-5 with one home run and two runs. Emily Squires was another key player, getting on base in two of her five plate appearances with three stolen bases and one run.

South Harrison kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 11 hits. They are 5-1 when they post 11 or more hits.

South Harrison pushed their record up to 8-12 with the victory, which was their fourth straight at home. The home wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 3.5 runs on average over those games. As for Robert C. Byrd, they are on a four-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 2-20.

South Harrison has already played their next game, a 7-2 defeat against Ritchie County on the 5th. As for Robert C. Byrd, they also didn't take long to hit the field again: they've already played their next matchup, an 8-3 victory against Elkins on the 2nd.
