Softball Recap: McQueen Comes Up Short

McQueen dropped their record down to 13-11 on Thursday, which also ended the team's three-game streak of wins on the road. They fell just short of the Reed Raiders by a score of 4-3. Unfortunately, that's the second time they've come up short against the Raiders this season, as they also lost their prior matchup 6-0 back in February.

McQueen saw five different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Vanessa Bein, who went a perfect 2-for-2 with one run.

As for Reed, they have been performing incredibly well recently as they've won 15 of their last 16 matches. That's provided a nice bump to their 18-3-1 record this season. Those wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 8.0 runs over those games.

On Reed's side, Hayley Noble spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered three earned runs on seven hits. Noble has been consistent: she hasn't given up more than two walks in seven consecutive appearances.

On the hitting side, the team relied heavily on Krystyn Noble, who went a perfect 3-for-3 with one triple and one run. That's the most hits she has posted over her last 11 contests.

We've got plenty of inter-league action coming up soon. McQueen will face off against rival Galena at 10:00 a.m. on Saturday. Meanwhile, Reed is set to challenge their familiar foe Damonte Ranch at 10:00 a.m. on Saturday. The timing is sure in the Raiders' favor as the team sits on four straight wins at home while the Mustangs have been banged up by six consecutive losses on the road.
