Basketball Recap: Ryle Takes Loss Despite Strong Performances from Jaelyn Jones and Jayden (Jay) Mcclain

Ryle was the 53-39 winner over Mercy when they last played one another back in February of 2024, but their luck changed this time around. The Ryle Raiders fell just short of the Mercy Jaguars by a score of 52-49 on Tuesday. The Raiders' loss continues a trend for the squad, making it four in a row.

Despite the defeat, Ryle had strong showings from Jayden (Jay) Mcclain, who dropped a double-double on ten points and 21 boards, and Jaelyn Jones, who went 6 of 9 on her way to 15 points and eight rebounds. (Jay) Mcclain is also on a roll when it comes to blocks, as she's now posted two or more in the last 11 games she's played. Emerson Dowell was another key player, putting up seven points and seven boards.

Even though they lost, Ryle smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 23 offensive boards. That's the most offensive rebounds they've managed all season.

Ryle's loss dropped their record down to 7-15. As for Mercy, their win ended a four-game drought on the road and puts them at 13-13.

Ryle has already played their next contest, a 63-35 defeat against Notre Dame Academy on the 6th. Mercy has also already played their next matchup (against Christian Academy-Louisville), but no score has been uploaded at the time of writing.
