Basketball Game Recap: Karnes City Badgers vs. Nixon-Smiley Mustangs

Nixon-Smiley came into Friday's matchup looking for another win against Karnes City, but Savion Nixon-Thompson wouldn't allow it. The Karnes City Badgers breezed by the Nixon-Smiley Mustangs to the tune of 68-39 on Friday thanks in part to Nixon-Thompson, who shot 6-for-10 from beyond the arc and dropped a double-double on 31 points and 14 boards. That makes it three consecutive games in which he has scored at least a third of Karnes City's points.

Andrew Crow was another key player, putting up seven points and six assists. That's the most assists he has posted since back in November of 2024.

Karnes City's victory was their first in the district, bumping their district record up to 1-2 and their overall record up to 14-11. As for Nixon-Smiley, they have been struggling recently as they've lost three of their last four contests, which put a noticeable dent in their 7-12 record this season.

Karnes City will face off against Stockdale at 7:30 p.m. on Wednesday. As for Nixon-Smiley, they will square off against Poth at 6:30 p.m. on Monday.
