Softball Recap: Liberty Christian Drops Highest Score of Season Against Nolan Catholic

Winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask Liberty Christian). Their pitcher stepped up to hand the Nolan Catholic Vikings a 20-0 shutout on Thursday. The Warriors might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won seven contests by six runs or more this season.

Makenzie Byler made a big impact while hitting and pitching. On the mound, she struck out eight batters over three innings while giving up no earned runs or hits (and not a single walk). Byler was also stellar in the batter's box, going a perfect 4-for-4 with three doubles and four RBI. That's the most RBI she has posted since back in February.

In other batting news, Liberty Christian let Avery Combest and Paige Childers run wild. Combest fired off four runs, four doubles, and two RBI while going 4-for-4, while Childers went 2-for-3 with one home run, three runs, and three RBI. Those four doubles gave Combest a new career-high. Faith Ford was another key player, going a perfect 3-for-3 with three runs, two doubles, and one stolen base.

Liberty Christian always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .844. That's the best OBP they've posted all season.

Liberty Christian is on a roll lately: they've won ten of their last 12 matches. That's provided a nice bump to their 11-5-1 record this season. Those wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 8.5 runs over those games. As for Nolan Catholic, they are on an eight-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 4-16-1.

We've got plenty of inter-district action coming up soon. Liberty Christian is set to square off against their familiar foe Parish Episcopal at 5:30 p.m. on Tuesday. Meanwhile, Nolan Catholic will take on rival Trinity Christian at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday.
