Football Recap: Martin County Starts Season with Victory Against John Carroll Catholic

Martin County took care of business in their home opener on Thursday. They walked away with a 14-6 win over the John Carroll Catholic Rams. That result was just more of the same for these two, as the Tigers also won the last time the pair played back in February of 2024.

Multiple players turned in solid performances to lead Martin County to victory, but perhaps none more so than Calista Scornavacca, who threw for 144 yards and two touchdowns. The dominant performance also gave Scornavacca a new career-high in rushing yards (28). Another player making a difference was Delaney Gribben, who gained 69 total yards and a touchdown.

Martin County didn't go easy on the quarterback and picked off two passes before the game was over. In fact, those interceptions all came courtesy of defensive juggernaut Lily Leonardson.

John Carroll Catholic's loss dropped their record down to 1-1.

Both teams will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Martin County will hit the road for the first time this season to challenge Jensen Beach at 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday. As for John Carroll Catholic, they will challenge Centennial at 5:00 p.m. on Tuesday.
