Basketball Recap: Clairemont Starts Season with Victory Against Southwest SD

Clairemont gave their fans exactly what they wanted out of a home opener on Wednesday. They secured a 50-45 W over the Southwest SD Raiders. For the Chieftains, this counts as revenge for the 57-40 win the Raiders walked away with the last time they faced one another back in December of 2016.

Clairemont's success was the result of a balanced attack that saw several players step up, but Liam Brock led the charge by putting up 14 points and three steals. Brock has been hot recently, having posted two or more steals the last three times he's played. Omar Rodarte was another key player, scoring 12 points and eight boards.

Despite the loss, Southwest SD still got an impressive performance from Noah Soltero, who posted 16 points. That was a full 35.6% of the Raiders' points, marking the third time in a row Soltero has had more than a third of the team's points. The team also got some help courtesy of Alex Cardoso, who earned 11 points.

Having lost for the first time this season, Southwest SD fell to 2-1.

Looking ahead, Clairemont will venture away from home to square off against San Dieguito Academy at 7:30 p.m. on Tuesday. As for Southwest SD, they will welcome O'Farrell Charter at 6:30 p.m. on Wednesday. The Raiders will be up against the Falcons' rather soft defense (which has allowed 62.17 points per contest), so fans could be in store for a big offensive performance.
