Basketball Game Preview: Mayfield Panthers vs. Schoharie Storm

The Mayfield Panthers will head out on the road to face off against the Schoharie Storm at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. Schoharie took a loss in their last matchup and will be looking to turn the tables on Mayfield, who comes in off a win.

Mayfield is headed out to face Schoharie after opening their season at home and giving their fans just what they were looking for. The Panthers simply couldn't be stopped on Wednesday as they easily beat Mekeel Christian Academy 73-36. The Panthers not only won on Wednesday, but they posted their biggest win since January 24th (when they won 68-29).

Mayfield's win was the result of several impressive offensive performances. One of the most notable came from Abigail Powers, who almost dropped a double-double with 24 points and nine rebounds. Those 24 points gave Powers a new career-high. The team also got some help courtesy of Brianna Iannuzzi, who posted 27 points and four steals.

Mayfield smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 15 offensive rebounds. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now pulled down at least ten offensive boards in five consecutive contests dating back to last season.

Meanwhile, Schoharie was not able to break out of their rough patch on Wednesday as the team picked up their eighth straight loss dating back to last season. They had to suffer through a 77-15 loss at the hands of Berne-Knox-Westerlo. The Storm were down 58-11 at the end of the third quarter, and things only got worse from there.

Everything came up roses for Mayfield against Schoharie when the teams last played back in December of 2024, as the team secured a 69-21 victory. In that game, the Panthers amassed a halftime lead of 42-13, an impressive feat they'll look to repeat on Friday.
