Basketball Recap: Fountain-Fort Carson Comes Up Short

Fountain-Fort Carson was not able to break out of their rough patch on Thursday as the team picked up their fourth straight loss. They took an 80-67 hit to the loss column at the hands of the Columbine Rebels. If the Trojans were looking for revenge after losing 57-54 to them when the teams met, then they'll just have to keep looking.

Despite the loss, Fountain-Fort Carson still got an impressive performance from Sean-Paul Cruz, who went 8 for 12 on his way to 21 points. Jordan Ulmer was another key player, going 5 for 9 on his way to 13 points.

Even though they lost, Fountain-Fort Carson was working as a unit and finished the game with 15 assists. That's the most assists they've managed all season.

Cash Boykin continued his habit of posting crazy stat lines for Columbine, dropping a double-double on 30 points and 11 boards. Boykin is also crushing it when it comes to steals: he's grabbed at least two every time he's taken the court this season. Jeremiah Shortis was another key player, going 7 of 8 on his way to 16 points along with five rebounds and three blocks.

Fountain-Fort Carson's defeat dropped their record down to 3-7. As for Columbine, their victory bumped their record up to 5-3.

Fountain-Fort Carson will look to defend their home court on Saturday against Denver South at 1:00 p.m. One thing working in Denver South's favor is that they have posted at least 55 points every time they've taken the court this season. As for Columbine, they won't have much time to rest: their next matchup is against Heritage at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. Columbine is strutting in with some offensive muscle as they've averaged 66 points per game this season.
