Highland is 1-6 against Basha since March of 2016 but they'll have a chance to close the gap a little bit on Wednesday. The Hawks will head out to face off against the Bears at 4:00 p.m. Highland is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 6.7 runs per game this season.
Highland made up a huge gap compared to their last game against Hamilton, but they still couldn't quite topple them. The Hawks fell just short of the Huskies by a score of 10-8 on Friday. That's two games in a row now that the Hawks have lost by exactly two runs.
Trace McDonald was cooking despite his team's loss, going 2-for-4 with one home run, four RBI, and two runs. The team also got some help courtesy of Gage Tarwater, who went 2-for-3 with two runs, one double, and one RBI.
Meanwhile, Basha beat Tolleson 5-1 on Friday. The win made it back-to-back victories for the Bears.
Dylan Clementz was a major factor no matter where he played. He looked comfortable on the mound, pitching two innings while giving up no earned runs off one hit. He has been consistent: he hasn't given up more than two walks in eight consecutive appearances. He was also solid in the batter's box, going a perfect 2-for-2 with one run, one double, and one RBI. That's the most hits he has posted since back in February.
In other pitching news, Parker Biltimier looked comfortable as he pitched two innings while giving up no earned runs off one hit. Basha is 5-2 when Biltimier allows one or fewer earned runs, but 7-11 otherwise.
Clementz wasn't the only one making solid contact as five players wound up with at least one hit. One of them was Ethan Clark, who went 1-for-3 with one run and one RBI. Another was Clayton Cooper, who went 2-for-3 with one RBI.
Basha was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .385. They are 4-2 when they post a batting average of .375 or better.
Highland's defeat dropped their record down to 16-11. As for Basha, their record is now 12-13.
Fans could be in store for some top-tier slugging on Wednesday. Highland hasn't had any problems when it comes to power this season, having averaged 0.5 home runs per game. However, it's not like Basha struggles in that department as they've been averaging an even more impressive 0.4 home runs. With so much power on both teams, it'll be down to the pitchers to keep the mound locked down.
Highland beat Basha 10-5 in their previous matchup back in March. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Hawks since the team won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
