Preview: Northfield Norsemen vs. Southwood Knights
The Northfield Norsemen will take on the Southwood Knights at 7:30 p.m. on Friday. Hopefully Northfield focused on turnovers this week since the team gave up 20 on Saturday.
Winning is just a little bit easier when you outrebound your opponent 19 to 5 on the offensive boards, a fact Northfield proved. They came out on top against Churubusco by a score of 49-38. The victory made it back-to-back wins for Northfield.
Hannah Holmes continued her habit of posting crazy stat lines, dropping a double-double on 24 points and 19 rebounds. As a matter of fact, that's the most points she has scored all season. The team also got some help courtesy of Elli Baker, who scored 12 points along with six rebounds.
Meanwhile, Southwood had to endure a three-game losing streak, but that streak is no more. They strolled past Southern Wells with points to spare on Saturday, taking the game 54-36. The victory was just what Southwood needed coming off of a 55-32 loss in their prior game.
Southwood's win was the result of several impressive offensive performances. One of the most notable came from Lola Winer, who scored 13 points along with five rebounds and four steals. Winer is on a roll when it comes to steals, as she's now grabbed two or more in the last three games she's played. Another player making a difference was Gracie Lambert, who scored 13 points.
Northfield's record now sits at 10-13. Southwood's record now sits at 7-14.
Everything went Northfield's way against the Knights in their previous matchup back in December of 2023 as the Norsemen made off with a 55-34 victory. The rematch might be a little tougher for Northfield since the team won't have the home-court advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
