Preview: Academe of the Oaks Firebirds vs. Horizon Christian Academy Warriors
Academe of the Oaks is 0-5 against Horizon Christian Academy since January of 2018 but they'll have a chance to close the gap a little bit on Tuesday. The Academe of the Oaks Firebirds will be playing at home against the Horizon Christian Academy Warriors at 6:30 p.m. The teams are rolling into the game with opposing streaks: Academe of the Oaks has struggled recently with 15 losses in a row, while Horizon Christian Academy will arrive with five straight victories.
Academe of the Oaks pushed their score all the way to 55 two weeks ago, but even that wasn't enough to win. They fell just short of Providence Classical Christian by a score of 57-55.
Meanwhile, Horizon Christian Academy didn't have too much trouble with South Haven Christian on the road on Saturday as they won 68-52.
Horizon Christian Academy got their win on the backs of several key players, but it was Jacob Salvador out in front who scored 12 points along with eight rebounds and two steals. That's the first time this season that Salvador pulled down eight or more rebounds. The team also got some help courtesy of Cooper Johnson, who scored 18 points along with five rebounds.
Academe of the Oaks' defeat was their eighth straight on the road dating back to last season, which bumped their record down to 0-6. Those losses could be blamed on the team's offensive performance across that stretch, as they only averaged 24.1 points per game. As for Horizon Christian Academy, they have been performing incredibly well recently as they've won six of their last seven games, which provided a nice bump to their 9-10 record this season.
Academe of the Oaks took a serious blow against Horizon Christian Academy in their previous matchup back in December of 2023, falling 93-15. A big factor in that loss was the dominant performance of Horizon Christian Academy's Evan Holcombe, who dropped a double-double on 43 points and 11 rebounds.
