Camp Point Central has gone 8-2 against Liberty recently and they'll look to pad the win column further on Friday. The Panthers will venture away from home to face off against the Eagles at 4:30 p.m. Both squads will be entering this one on the heels of a big victory.
Liberty will square off against a team with plenty of momentum: Camp Point Central extended their winning streak to three on Thursday. Everything went the Panthers' way against Brown County as they made off with a 15-9 victory.
Claire Huston was incredible, going 3-for-4 with three RBI, two runs, and one triple. That's the most hits she has posted since back in March of 2024. The team also got some help courtesy of Karly Peters, who went 2-for-4 with three runs, one stolen base, and two RBI.
Meanwhile, Liberty got the win against Astoria/VIT on Thursday by a conclusive 18-8. The win made it back-to-back victories for the Eagles.
Ava Heming made a splash while hitting and pitching. She didn't allow a single earned run and allowed only one hit over six innings pitched. Heming was also big at the plate, going 3-for-5 with two stolen bases, three runs, and three RBI.
In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Claire Obert, who went a perfect 2-for-2 with one home run, two stolen bases, and three runs. Camdyn Ormond also deserves some recognition as she hit her first triple of the season.
Liberty was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .467. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Astoria/VIT only posted a batting average of .227.
Liberty's win was their sixth straight at home, which pushed their record up to 19-5. The home victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 13.7 runs over those games. As for Camp Point Central, their record now sits at 13-4.
Fans could be in store for some top-tier slugging on Friday. Camp Point Central hasn't had any problems when it comes to power this season, having averaged 0.5 home runs per game. However, it's not like Liberty struggles in that department as they've been averaging an even more impressive 0.9 home runs. With so much power on both teams, it'll be down to the pitchers to keep the mound locked down.
Camp Point Central skirted past Liberty 8-7 in their previous meeting back in March of 2024. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Panthers since the squad won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
