Basketball Recap: Elena Eubank Leads a Balanced Attack to Beat NSU University

After losing to NSU University the last time they met, Marathon decided to demonstrate that turnabout is fair play. The Marathon Dolphins walked away with a 47-38 victory over the NSU University Sharks on Thursday. The win was all the more spectacular given the Dolphins' disadvantage in MaxPreps' Florida basketball rankings (they are ranked 333rd, while the Sharks are ranked 127th).

Marathon's win was the result of several impressive offensive performances. One of the most notable came from Elena Eubank, who went 9 for 15 en route to 19 points in addition to seven boards and four steals. Eubank is on a roll when it comes to points, as she's now scored 16 or more in the last four games she's played. Another player making a difference was Marti'Yana Kilbourn, who posted eight points along with nine rebounds and five steals.

Marathon was working as a unit and finished the game with 11 assists. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as NSU University only racked up two assists.

Despite the loss, NSU University saw an underclassman step up: sophomore Laly Luque went 6 of 8 on her way to 16 points. Kenna Cohen-Osceola was another key player, putting up three points in addition to six boards and three steals.

Marathon now has a winning record of 8-7. As for NSU University, their defeat ended a five-game streak of away wins dating back to last season and brought them to 15-5.

The two teams are set to take part in some playoff action in their next matches. Marathon will square off against Fort Meade on Thursday. As for NSU University, they will host Key West at 2:30 p.m. on Saturday.
