6A District 5 recap Oct. 3, 2012
Lecanto moved up to 396 from 449 in the state rankings this week, the biggest jump in 6A District 5. The Panthers were able to make the jump by beating The Villages Charter 28-0.
Gainesville extended the longest winning streak in the league this week by beating Eastside, 40-0. The win marks fifth in a row for the the Hurricanes.
Tre Taylor was the most productive running back in the league this week. He ran for 159 yards on 19 carries as Lake Weir fell to Chiles. Malik Robinson also contributed to the rushing game with 67 yards on the ground.
Cody Bogart put up the best numbers through the air as Citrus fell to Crystal River. He finished with seven completions for 105 yards and one touchdown. Bogart's favorite target this week was Desmond Franklin, who caught two passes for 36 yards.
Evans was the best wideout in 6A District 5 this week as the Hurricanes lost to the Timberwolves. Evans tallied four receptions for 63 yards. Khamel Reynolds helped Lake Weir's passing attack out by catching two balls for 42 yards.
Lake Weir's Cutler Blackburn and Evans have formed a dynamic duo this season, leading the league in both passing and receiving yards. Blackburn has thrown for 458 yards this season, while Evans has 25 catches for 306 yards. The Hurricanes' Darius Chapes leads the league in rushing yards with 472.
A big matchup in the league this week will be when Citrus takes on Gainesville. At the moment, Rayburn Green's team is in third, while the Hurricanes are in first.
Gainesville took down the Rams 40-0 last week, the largest margin of any game.
