Baseball Recap: Blackford Drops Highest Score of Season Against Liberty Christian

Blackford had lost seven games straight , but after bumping their record up to 9-17 on Tuesday that streak is in the rearview. Everything went their way against the Liberty Christian Lions as they made off with a 19-2 victory. The Bruins' hitters stepped up their game for this one, as that was the most runs they've scored all season.

Owen Norton was a major factor no matter where he played. He didn't allow a single earned run while striking out 11 over five innings pitched. He has been consistent recently: he hasn't given up more than one earned run in three consecutive appearances. He was also big at the plate, getting on base in four of his five plate appearances with two runs, one stolen base, and two RBI. He is becoming a predictor of Blackford's success: when he posts at least two runs the team is 2-1 (and 7-16 when he doesn't).

In other batting news, Clayton Heflin and Max Bonewit did most of the damage at the plate: Heflin got on base in all three of his plate appearances with two runs, one stolen base, and two RBI, while Bonewit went 3-for-4 with one stolen base, two RBI, and one run. Blackford is undefeated when Heflin posts two or more runs, but 6-17 otherwise. Another player making a difference was Corbin Parrott, who went a perfect 2-for-2 with two runs and one RBI.

Blackford always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .711. They are a perfect 3-0 when they post an OBP of .513 or better.

As for Liberty Christian, their loss dropped their record down to 5-10. Having soared to a lofty 15 runs in the game before, they couldn't push the score so high this time.

On Liberty Christian's side, they saw two different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Ben Davidson, who went 1-for-2 with one double.

Blackford wasted no time getting back out on the field and has already played their next game, a 10-0 defeat against Wapahani on the 31st. As for Liberty Christian, they have also already played their next contest, a 22-1 win against Tindley on the 30th.
