Baseball Recap: Killian Takes a Loss

After flying high against Coral Park last Tuesday, Killian came back down to earth. The Killian Cougars fell 4-0 to the Lowndes Vikings on Friday.

Zach Fernandez was a force to be reckoned with on the mound despite the final result: he struck out nine batters over 5.1 innings while giving up three earned (and one unearned) runs off four hits. He has been nothing but reliable: he hasn't given up more than two walks any time he's pitched this season.

On the hitting side, Killian saw four different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Lucas Arcaute, who went 1-for-3 with one stolen base.

Killian's defeat was their fourth straight on the road dating back to last season, which dropped their record down to 2-3. As for Lowndes, the victory (which was their third in a row) raised their record to 3-2.

Coming up, Killian will head out to challenge Colquitt County at 1:30 p.m. on Saturday. As for Lowndes, they will look to defend their home field on Saturday against Bishop Verot at 3:00 p.m. The two teams have allowed few runs on average, (Lowndes: 3.4, Bishop Verot: 1.2) so any runs scored will be well earned.
