Softball Recap: Burges' Win Ends Three-Game Losing Streak on the Road

It may have taken eight innings to finish the job, but Burges ultimately got the result they hoped for on Wednesday. They walked away with a 13-9 win over the Chapin Huskies. This was payback for the Mustangs, who suffered a 17-3 loss the last time these two teams met.

The team relied heavily on Yoselin Chavira, who scored two runs and stole two bases while going 3-for-6. That's the most stolen bases she has posted since back in February of 2024. Another player making a difference was Breann Mendoza, who scored a run while getting on base in three of her five plate appearances.

Chavira wasn't the only one working in the hit department: Burges kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 13 hits. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now got at least nine hits in six consecutive matches.

Burges' victory ended a three-game drought on the road and puts them at 14-13. As for Chapin, their defeat was their first in the district, dropping their district record down to 4-1 and their overall record down to 18-6-2.

Looking ahead, Burges will take on Jefferson at 6:00 p.m. on Friday. As for Chapin, they will challenge El Paso at 6:00 p.m. on Friday. The Tigers have struggled to contain batters this season (they've allowed 10.69 runs per game on average), something the Huskies will no doubt try to take advantage of.
