Volleyball Recap: Archbishop Mcnicholas' Run of 13 Straight Wins Now Over

It was a good run, but Archbishop McNicholas unfortunately witnessed the end of their 13-match winning streak on Thursday. They took a 3-1 hit to the loss column at the hands of the St. Ursula Academy Bulldogs. The result was an unpleasant reminder to the Rockets of the 3-0 defeat they experienced in the pair's previous head-to-head fixture back in October of 2021.

While Archbishop McNicholas had to settle for second, they sure made a game of it, scoring at least 20 points in every set they played. The final score came out to 25-21, 25-20, 19-25, 25-21.

Despite the loss, Archbishop McNicholas had strong showings from Allie Runte, who had eight digs and four aces, and Ali Strange, who had 31 digs and seven assists. Runte is also on a roll when it comes to assists, as she's now posted 14 or more in each of the last seven games she's played.

Archbishop McNicholas' defeat dropped their record down to 19-2. As for St. Ursula Academy, they are on a roll lately: they've won six of their last eight contests. That's provided a nice bump to their 14-8 record this season.

Archbishop McNicholas didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next match, a 3-0 victory against Talawanda on the 13th. As for St. Ursula Academy, they will get to enjoy the win for a while: their next game is against Walnut Hills at 6:00 p.m. on the 23rd.
