Basketball Recap: Cypress Lakes Takes a Loss

Cypress Lakes suffered their biggest loss since November 8, 2024 on Friday. They were beaten by the Cypress Springs Panthers 70-34. The Spartans have struggled against the Panthers recently, as the game was their ninth consecutive lost matchup.

When it comes to explaining why Cypress Lakes lost, don't look at Makennah Alexis. Despite the final result, she posted ten points in addition to six steals and five boards. Alexis is on a roll when it comes to steals, as she's now grabbed two or more in the last 60 games she's played dating back to last season. The team also got some help courtesy of Antaniah Redmond, who put up eight points.

Cypress Springs was led to victory by Ayla Mcdowell and Jemini Mitchell. Mcdowell dropped a double-double on 26 points and ten rebounds, while Mitchell dropped a double-double on 24 points and ten boards. That makes it six consecutive games in which Mitchell has scored at least a third of Cypress Springs' points. Tamiah Harrison was another key player, putting up three points along with five assists and four steals.

Cypress Lakes' defeat dropped their record down to 17-8. As for Cypress Springs, the win was the 16th in a row for them, bringing their record for this year to 20-3.

Cypress Lakes didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next contest, a 59-27 victory against Cypress Park on the 14th. As for Cypress Springs, they also wasted no time getting back out on the court and have already played their next matchup, a 44-25 win against Cypress Ranch on the 14th.
