Baseball Recap: Broughton Takes a Tough Playoff Loss

It's hard to turn regular season success into postseason wins, a fact Broughton can now relate to. They fell just short of the Ashley Screaming Eagle by a score of 4-3 on Tuesday. The Capitals haven't had much luck with the Screaming Eagle recently, as the team has come up short the last three times they've met.

Sam Harris spent all 7.2 innings on the mound, and it's clear why: he surrendered only one earned (and three unearned) runs on six hits and racked up seven Ks. He has become a key player for Broughton: the team is 6-3 when he allows at most three earned runs, but 8-9 otherwise.

At the plate, Broughton saw six different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Mason Hawkins, who went 3-for-4 with one home run and three RBI.

Broughton's loss dropped their record down to 14-12. As for Ashley, the win (which was their fifth in a row) raised their record to 21-4.

Broughton does not have any more games scheduled as of now. As for Ashley, they will challenge Apex Friendship on Friday. The two teams have allowed few runs on average (the Screaming Eagle 2.7, the Patriots 3) so any runs scored will be well earned.
