Softball Preview: Springport Spartans vs. Northwest Mounties
The Springport Spartans will look to defend their home field on Thursday against the Northwest Mounties at 4:00 p.m.
Springport is probably headed into the contest with a chip on their shoulder considering Howell just ended the team's five-game winning streak dating back to last season on Saturday. They lost 14-1 to the Highlanders. Springport was red-hot at the plate headed into the match (they scored no less than ten runs in the three matchups prior) but Howell's pitchers proved too tough.
Northwest never got on the board in their matchup on Tuesday, but that sure wasn't the case in their game against Coldwater on Tuesday. They walked away with a 15-10 win over the Cardinals.
Lucy Bivens looked comfortable as she tossed four innings while giving up three earned runs off three hits. She has been nothing but reliable on the mound: she hasn't given up more than two walks in nine consecutive pitching appearances.
On the hitting side, Northwest got a massive performance out of Campbell Kloack, who got on base in three of her five plate appearances with a home run, three RBI, and two runs. The team also got some help courtesy of Ari Good, who went 1-for-4 with a home run and three RBI.
Having lost for the first time this season, Springport fell to 3-1. As for Northwest, their victory bumped their record up to 16-5.
