Softball Recap: North Mustangs vs. Morenci Wildcats
North extended their losing streak to three on Thursday, dropping them down to 1-4. They came up short against the Morenci Wildcats, falling 20-2. Having soared to a lofty 14 runs in the game before, the Mustangs couldn't push the score so high this time.
As for Morenci, they now have a winning record of 5-4. That 18-run margin sets a new team best for them this season.
For Morenci's part, Tiara Jones made a splash no matter where she played. She looked comfortable on the mound, striking out six batters over three innings while giving up no earned runs or hits (and not a single walk). Jones has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't given up more than one earned run in four consecutive appearances. She was also big at the plate, going a perfect 2-for-2 with one home run, three runs, and three RBI.
In other batting news, Jaliyah Hernandez was incredible, going a perfect 3-for-3 with one home run, three runs, and three RBI. That's the most runs she has posted since back in April of 2025. Malina Martinez was another key player, going a perfect 2-for-2 with three runs, three RBI, and one double.
North has already played their next matchup, a 16-3 victory against Wickenburg on the 19th. As for Morenci, they also wasted no time getting back out on the field and have already played their next contest, a 17-13 win against Monument Valley on the 19th.
