Baseball Recap: Paloma Valley Triumphs

It may have taken eight innings to finish the job, but Paloma Valley ultimately got the result they hoped for on Wednesday. They won by a run and slipped past the Poly Bears 7-6. The win continues a trend for the Wildcats in their matchups with the Bears: they've now won seven in a row.

Clinton Glass was a major factor while hitting and pitching. On the mound, he struck out six batters over 4.2 innings while giving up just one earned run off four hits. He is becoming a predictor of Paloma Valley's success: when he allows at most three earned runs the team is 2-1 (and 1-3 when he doesn't). Glass was also big at the plate, going 2-for-4 with four RBI and one double. Those four RBI gave him a new career-high.

In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Wyatt Smith, who went 3-for-4 with three runs and one RBI. He has become a key player for Paloma Valley: the team is 2-1 when he posts at least two runs, but 1-3 otherwise.

Paloma Valley picked up their first home victory, bumping their record up to 3-4. As for Poly, with the loss, they broke their four-game winning streak and moved their record to 4-3.

Paloma Valley will have a chance to go back-to-back against the Bears: the pair's next game is a rematch scheduled at 3:15 p.m. on Friday.
