Basketball Recap: Red Mesa Takes Loss Despite Strong Performances from Jovun Paul and Jonah Herbert

Red Mesa lost against Seligman back in December of 2023, and unfortunately they wound up with the same result on Friday. The Red Mesa Redskins lost 97-71 to the Seligman Antelopes. Despite running the score up even higher than they did in their prior game last Saturday (69), the Redskins still had to take the loss.

Red Mesa's loss came despite strong showings from Jonah Herbert and Jovun Paul. Herbert dropped a double-double with 24 points and 14 boards, while Paul almost dropped a double-double with 20 points and nine rebounds. The match was Herbert's third in a row with at least 15 points. The team also got some help courtesy of Devyn John, who posted eight points and five boards.

Even though they lost, Red Mesa smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 16 offensive rebounds. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now pulled down at least 11 offensive boards in three consecutive games.

Leading Seligman to victory were Carmelo Manakaja and Montae Walker. Manakaja dropped a double-double with 34 points and ten rebounds, while Walker almost dropped a double-double with 28 points and nine boards. That makes it four consecutive games in which Manakaja has scored at least a third of Seligman's points. Hunter Silas was another key player, going 6-for-14 en route to 16 points and three steals.

Red Mesa's loss dropped their record down to 16-14. As for Seligman, their victory was their tenth straight at home dating back to last season, which pushed their record up to 22-7.

Red Mesa does not have any more games scheduled as of now. As for Seligman, they will take on Williams at 7:00 p.m. on February 21st. One thing working in Seligman's favor is that they have posted at least 55 points in their last nine contests.
