Williston is 0-6 against Wildwood since February of 2015 but things could change on Saturday. The Williston Red Devils will challenge the Wildwood Wildcats at 7:00 p.m. Both teams are coming into the match red-hot, with Williston sitting on nine straight wins and Wildwood on 20.
Williston is on a roll after a high-stakes playoff matchup on Thursday. They came out on top against Hawthorne by a score of 57-44. Given the Red Devils' advantage in MaxPreps' Florida basketball rankings (they are ranked 14th, while the Hornets are ranked 93rd), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.
Ashlyn Young continued her habit of posting crazy stat lines, going 5 of 10 to rack up 20 points. Tiona Wilkinson was another key player, putting up nine points and seven boards.
Williston smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 18 offensive boards. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now pulled down at least 12 offensive rebounds in three consecutive contests.
Meanwhile, Wildwood was fully in charge on Thursday, breezing past Chiefland 79-22. The Wildcats have made a habit of sweeping their opponents off the court, having now won 11 games by 28 points or more this season.
Wildwood's win came from a few key players Williston will need to keep an eye on. One of the most notable was Trinidy Harris, who went 10 for 23 on her way to 23 points and six steals. The team also got some help courtesy of Adejah Corbin, who posted 13 points in addition to seven rebounds and four steals.
Williston's victory bumped their record up to 18-2. As for Wildwood, their win was their 14th straight at home dating back to last season, which pushed their record up to 20-0.
Saturday's match will pit two of the most dominant guards against one another: Young and Harris. Young has been dynamite this season: she has averaged 10.3 points, 2.2 steals, and 3.8 assists. For her part, Harris has averaged 18.6 points, 3.7 steals, and 2.9 assists.
Williston was taken down by Wildwood 83-12 when the teams last played back in January of 2023. Can Williston avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
