Football Recap: Newberry Comes Up Short on the Road Against University Christian + How To Watch

Newberry kicked off their season on the road on Friday and hit a couple of potholes. They were dealt a 47-14 loss at the hands of the University Christian Christians. The Panthers were given a dose of their own medicine in this game as the Christians apparently hadn't forgotten their defeat the last time these teams played back in August of 2024.

Newberry didn't go easy on the quarterback and picked off two passes before the game was over. The picks came courtesy of Derris Ford and Laharry Debose.

Xavier Billings was nothing short of spectacular for University Christian: he rushed for 78 yards and two touchdowns. Zay Hilliard was in the mix too, providing the Christians with one score.

Looking ahead, Newberry will take on Hawthorne at 7:30 p.m. on Friday. As for University Christian, they will square off against Bishop Kenny at 7:00 p.m. on Friday.
