Baseball Recap: Bayonne Takes a Loss

Bayonne extended their losing streak to three on Monday, dropping their season record down to 5-4 in the process. They lost 10-2 to the Union City Soaring Eagles. The Bees were given a dose of their own medicine in this game as the Soaring Eagles apparently hadn't forgotten their defeat the last time these teams played back in April of 2024.

As for Union City, they pushed their record up to 13-4 with the victory, which was their third straight at home. They might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won nine matchups by seven runs or more this season.

For Union City's part, Wilme Mas Sarda made a splash while hitting and pitching. He struck out 12 batters over seven innings while giving up just two earned runs off three hits. Those 12 strikeouts gave Mas Sarda a new career-high. He was also stellar in the batter's box, getting on base in four of his five plate appearances with two runs, one stolen base, and one double.

In other batting news, Jayden Perez was a standout: he went 2-for-4 with one home run, two runs, and one stolen base. Another player making a difference was Cristian Mejia, who got on base in all four of his plate appearances with one stolen base, one run, and one RBI.

While Bayonne had to take the loss, they won't have to wait long to give it another shot: the pair's next game is a rematch scheduled at 4:30 p.m. on Wednesday.
