Baseball Game Preview: Sonora Raiders vs. Brea Olinda Wildcats

For the second straight game, Sonora will face off against Brea Olinda. The Raiders will be playing at home against the Wildcats at 3:15 p.m. on Friday. The two teams have allowed few runs on average (Sonora 2.5, Brea Olinda 3.2) so any runs scored will be well earned.

Sonora fell victim to Brea Olinda and their airtight pitching crew on Wednesday. They fell just short of the Wildcats by a score of 1-0. The game marked the first time this season in which the Raiders were not able to get on the board.

Robby Blaine was a force to be reckoned with on the mound despite the final result: he didn't allow a single earned run over eight innings pitched. He has been consistent for a while: he hasn't tossed less than five strikeouts in nine consecutive appearances.

On the hitting side, Sonora saw five different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Ryan Lietzau, who went 1-for-4 with one stolen base. Luke Crowder also deserves some recognition as he hit his first double of the season.

The victory was the sixth in a row for Brea Olinda, bringing their record up to 14-6. Those wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 1.8 runs on average over those games. As for Sonora, their loss dropped their record down to 13-8.
