Softball Recap: Ennis Extends Winning Streak to Six

Ennis entered their tilt with Martin on Friday with five consecutive wins , and they'll enter their next game with six. Their pitcher stepped up to hand the Martin Warriors a 4-0 shutout. This was payback for the Lions, who suffered a 10-4 loss the last time these two teams met.

Breona Benavidez was a major factor while hitting and pitching. On the mound, she didn't allow a single earned run and allowed only two hits while striking out nine over six innings pitched. She has been consistent : she hasn't given up more than one earned run in seven consecutive appearances. She was also stellar in the batter's box, going 2-for-3 with one home run and three RBI. That's the most RBI she has posted since back in March of 2024.

Benavidez wasn't the only one making solid contact as three players wound up with at least one hit. One of them was Kaycee Slovak, who scored a run while going 2-for-3.

Ennis hit smart and finished the game with only one strikeout. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now struck out at most four strikeouts in four consecutive games.

Ennis' win was their sixth straight at home dating back to last season, which pushed their record up to 8-2. The wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 1.0 run on average over those games. As for Martin, they have traveled a rocky road recently, having lost four of their last five matchups. That's put a noticeable dent in their 3-5-1 record this season.

Ennis wasted no time getting back out on the field and has already played their next contest, a 9-1 victory against Cross Roads on the 28th. As for Martin, they also didn't take long to hit the field again: they've already played their next game, a 12-1 defeat against Robinson on the 1st.
