Baseball Game Preview: Pamlico County Hurricanes vs. Voyager Academy Vikings

The Pamlico County Hurricanes will face off against the Voyager Academy Vikings on Tuesday. Both squads will be entering this one on the heels of a big victory.

Pamlico County is on a roll after a high-stakes playoff matchup on Saturday. They blew past Roxboro Community 11-1. The win was nothing new for the Hurricanes as they're now sitting on four straight.

Jeremiah Mitchell made a splash no matter where he played. He looked comfortable on the mound, striking out six batters over three innings while giving up no earned runs off one hit. He has been consistent: he hasn't given up more than one earned run in seven consecutive appearances. He was also big at the plate, going 1-for-2 with two stolen bases and two runs. That's the most runs he has posted since back in March.

In other batting news, Cam Daniels was incredible, going a perfect 4-for-4 with four RBI and two runs. Those four RBI gave him a new career-high. Another player making a difference was Micheal Hodge, who went 2-for-3 with one double and one RBI.

Meanwhile, while Voyager Academy put up some runs on Friday, the same can't be said for Cape Hatteras. The Vikings put the hurt on the Hurricanes with a sharp 10-0 victory. Winning may never get old, but the Vikings sure are getting used to it with their ninth in a row.

Voyager Academy let Hayden Van Auken and Erich Junker run wild. Van Auken went a perfect 2-for-2 with two runs, one stolen base, and one RBI, while Junker went a perfect 1-for-1 with three stolen bases and two runs. The team also got some help courtesy of Adam Freiburger, who went 1-for-3 with two runs, one double, and one RBI.

Voyager Academy was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .429. That was just more of the same: they've now posted a batting average of .395 or higher in three consecutive contests.

Voyager Academy's win was their fifth straight at home, which pushed their record up to 22-2. The home victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 10.0 runs over those games. As for Pamlico County, their record now sits at 13-11.
