Football Recap: South Point Red Raiders vs. Crest Chargers

South Point put another one in the bag on Friday to keep their perfect season alive. They pulled ahead with a 27-26 photo finish over the Crest Chargers. For the Red Raiders, this counts as revenge for the 61-49 defeat the Chargers walked away with the last time they faced one another back in September of 2023.

Patrick Blee was his usual excellent self, rushing for 95 yards and a touchdown, while also throwing for 99 yards and two touchdowns while completing 71.4% of his passes. The bulk of those rushing yards came from one huge play: a run that gained an incredible 72 yards. Gavin Smith got in on the action too, returning a kick for a touchdown.

South Point didn't go easy on the quarterback and picked off three passes before the game was over. The picks came courtesy of Smith and Peyton McCarn. Chanyce Ford was another major factor on D, making 13 total tackles.

Despite the loss, Crest still got an impressive performance from Aiden Carson, who rushed for 97 yards and two touchdowns.

South Point pushed their record up to 4-0 with the win, which was their fifth straight at home dating back to last season. As for Crest, their loss ended a five-game streak of away wins dating back to last season and brought them to 4-1.

South Point is taking a road trip to square off against Kings Mountain at 7:30 p.m. on Friday. Kings Mountain knows how to get points on the board -- the squad has finished with 31 points or more in their past four matches -- so hopefully South Point likes a good challenge. As for Crest, they will host North Gaston at 7:30 p.m. on Friday. Crest is strutting in with some offensive muscle as they've averaged 28 points per game this season.
