Softball Recap: Athens Takes a Loss

After flying high against Kemp last Tuesday, Athens came back down to earth. The Hornets fell just short of the Mabank Panthers by a score of 13-11 on Tuesday. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest loss the Hornets have suffered since March 28, 2024.

Athens' defeat dropped their record down to 11-8. As for Mabank, their victory was their first in the district, bumping their district record up to 1-7 and their overall record up to 7-13.

Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Athens will venture away from home to square off against Canton at 6:00 p.m. on Friday. The Eagles' pitching crew has only allowed 2.2 runs per game this season, so the Hornets' hitters will have their work cut out for them. As for Mabank, they will face off against Brownsboro at 6:30 p.m. on Friday.
