Basketball Recap: Colleton County Takes a Loss

Colleton County fought the good fight in their overtime matchup against Woodland on Friday but wound up with a less-than-desirable result. They took a 40-31 hit to the loss column at the hands of the Woodland Wolverines. The Cougars were up 28-4 in the third quarter but couldn't hold on to the lead.

When it comes to explaining why Colleton County lost, don't look at Xiomara Oxner. Despite the final result, she posted eight points and five rebounds. Oxner is also on a roll when it comes to steals, as she's now grabbed two or more in the last three games she's played. Zariona Hudson was another key player, putting up nine points.

Woodland's success was the result of a balanced attack that saw several players step up, but Lenaya Ross led the charge by posting nine points and seven rebounds. Those nine points gave Ross a new career-high. Another player making a difference was Makiza White, who had six points and six rebounds.

Colleton County dropped their record down to 4-7 with the loss, which was their 12th straight at home dating back to last season. As for Woodland, their record now sits at 2-6.

Colleton County didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next game, a 38-16 win against Cross on the 28th. As for Woodland, they also wasted no time getting back out on the court and have already played their next contest, a 34-31 defeat against Stall on the 28th.
