Basketball Recap: Chesnee Continues Home Dominance on Tuesday

Chesnee had already won two in a row (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 31 points) and they went ahead and made it three on Tuesday. They snuck past the Blacksburg Wildcats with a 70-66 win. This was a revenge game for the Eagles: when they faced off against the Wildcats back in December of 2024, they had to take a 62-55 defeat.

Leading Chesnee to victory were Elijah Brown and Braylon Blanton. Brown went 11 for 22 on his way to 32 points and seven boards, while Blanton went 7 of 13 en route to 17 points in addition to six assists and five rebounds. Brown continues to improve, besting his previous point total in each of the last three games he's played. The team also got some help courtesy of Ben Reese, who posted eight points.

Despite the loss, Blacksburg still got an impressive performance from Christian Federico, who shot 4-for-6 from downtown and dropped a double-double on 24 points and 11 boards. Federico continues to improve, besting his previous point total in each of the last four games he's played. Another player making a difference was Ziyon Harris, who went 6 for 14 on his way to 14 points.

Chesnee's victory was their tenth straight at home, which pushed their record up to 17-5. The wins came thanks to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 75.4 points per game. As for Blacksburg, they have been struggling recently as they've lost six of their last eight matches, which put a noticeable dent in their 6-12 record this season.

Chesnee will welcome High Point Academy at 7:30 p.m. on February 4th. High Point Academy knows how to get points on the board -- the squad has finished with 55 points or more in their past 16 games -- so hopefully Chesnee likes a good challenge. Blacksburg has already played their next contest, a 71-57 win against Liberty on the 31st.
