Football Recap: Rancho Bernardo Falls Short of Granite Hills in the Playoffs

Despite a phenomenal run in the regular season, Rancho Bernardo couldn't carry that success into this playoff game. They had to suffer through a 56-7 loss at the hands of the Granite Hills Eagles. The Broncos were in a tough position after the first half, with the score already sitting at 28-7.

Gaige Weddle threw for 105 yards on seven of 12 attempts. Trey Durham was his top target, picking up 79 receiving yards. On the ground, Max Marshall rushed for 68 yards.

Zachary Benitez had another great game (as he tends to do), throwing for 267 yards and three touchdowns while completing 76.5% of his passes, and also punching in one score on the ground for Granite Hills. The dominant performance also gave Benitez a new career-high in passer rating (157.5).

Rancho Bernardo's loss dropped their record down to 9-3. As for Granite Hills, the victory (which was their fifth in a row) raised their record to 8-3.

Rancho Bernardo does not have any more games scheduled as of now. As for Granite Hills, they will square off against Mount Miguel at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. That contest will pit two of the most dominant signal callers against one another: Benitez and Jeremiah Loper.
