A Season-Best Performance from Juan Mejia Leads Johnson County over Chuckey-Doak

Juan Mejia produced his most outstanding game to date while leading Johnson County to the win on Friday. Mejia wasn't messing around, rushing for 205 yards and five touchdowns while picking up 12.8 yards per carry. The contest was his seventh straight with two or more rushing touchdowns dating back to last season.

Chuckey-Doak had to have seen this coming; the last time they saw Mejia it was a similar story. When Mejia last faced the Black Knights back in October of 2023, he rushed for 160 yards.

Kolby Jones Has Career Rushing Day

On Friday, Unicoi County got the W thanks in part to Kolby Jones playing the best football he has all season. Jones rushed for 110 yards and four touchdowns on only ten carries, and also threw for 123 yards and a touchdown, good enough to set a new career-high in rushing yards in the process.

Jones might have his next game, a road matchup with Claiborne, circled on his calendar. When Jones last faced the Bulldogs back in October of 2023, he threw for 319 yards and three touchdowns while completing 73% of his passes.

Brayden Maples was a major factor in Gatlinburg-Pittman's victory over Claiborne on Friday. Claiborne had no answer to Maples as he made a tackle.

Gatlinburg-Pittman is on a roll lately: they've won three of their last four contests, which provided a nice bump to their 5-2 record this season. Maples and Gatlinburg-Pittman will head out to square off against Johnson County at 7:00 p.m. on Friday.

Bransan Salts posted a new career-high in rushing yards on Friday. He rushed for 184 yards and a touchdown while picking up 8.8 yards per carry.

On the year, Salts has run in 5 touchdowns while averaging 118.5 rushing yards per game. He is looking even better than he did last year: after six games last season, he was only averaging 14.83 rushing yards per game.
